Chhattisgarh demands inclusion of 42 more tribes in ST list

New Delhi, December 13, 2011

A delegation from Chhattisgarh led by state Tribal and Schedule Caste Development Minister Kedar Kashyap today called on Union Tribal Affairs Minister Kishore Chandra Deo and demanded inclusion of 42 more tribes in the list of Schedule Tribes.
    Member of Lok Sabha from Bastar Dinesh Kashyap, Lok Sabha Member from Kanker Sohan Potai, MP from Raigarh seat Vishnudeo Sai, MP from Sarguja Murarilal Singh, Chhattisgarh Schedule Tribes Commission President Devlal Dugga, Schedule Caste Commission President Dr. Krishna Murti Bandhi were part of the delegation.

    “A total of 42 Schedule Tribes in Chhattisgarh are not in the SC/ST list. Though these tribes are mentioned in the sub-caste list of Schedule Tribes, they are not included in the Schedule Tribes list,” the delegation told the minister.They said that the state government has sent a proposal to the Centre for inclusion of tribes such as Pathari, Pardhi, Sawra, Savra, Saura, Sahara, Bhuiya, Bhiya, Bhijhiya, kewat, Dhimar, Kahar, Mallah, Rautiya, Sawariya in the category of Schedule Tribes.
The union minister assured the delegation that the proposal will be duly examined and put to Parliament for inclusion in Constitution.
    The delegation also informed the minister that under Article 342(1) of the Constitution, ‘Abujhmadiya’ and ‘Pahari Korwa’ tribes which are the sub caste of ‘Madiya and Korwa’ tribes were not included in the ST list of Chhattisgarh.The minister also asked the delegation to send a proposal for opening ‘Eklavya Awaasiya’ School in the new districts of Chhattisgarh and assured them that the proposal will be sanctioned immediately. The minister also said that he will visit the state on December 17.
