Awareness Programme on Legal Support and Lok Adalat held at residential premise of Hamar Chhattisgarh Yojana

An awareness programme for educating panchayat representatives about free legal support and laws was held today. These panchayat representatives are on study tour under Hamar Chhattisgarh Yojana. Raipur District and Session Judge Mr. Neelam Chandra Sankhla, Chief Judicial Magistrate Mr. Anand Prakash Dixit and Legal Service Authority Secretary Mr. Umesh Upadhyay informed panch-sarpanch about various laws in a programme held at residential premise of the scheme in Naya Raipur. They informed them about the free legal support provided by the state government to the economically weaker section. Judges said that the resignable cases should be redressed in lok adalat. In this programme, nearly 600 panchayat representatives from Dhamtari, Raipur, Mahasamund and Gariaband districts participated.
District and Session Judge Mr. Neelam Chandra Sankhla said in the programme that not everyone in our country is educated, because of which they often fail to access the legal support. This is the reason why legal literacy is important. He said that accusing any woman of being 'tonhi' and harassing her is a crime calling for strict punishment. Judge Mr. Sankhla said that sex determination of a fetus is also a punishable offence.
Talking about the sustenance and looking after the senior citizens, Judge Mr. Sankhla told that people who leave their old parents alone or refuse to keep them at their own home, are subjected to the case of sustenance. In those circumstances, case can be filed in family court for protection of the rights of elderly people. Chief Judicial Magistrate Mr. Anand Prakash Dixit said that through Legal Service Authority, efforts are being made to create awareness among public. Secretary Legal Service Authority Mr. Umesh Upadhyay also addressed the programme. In this programme, In-charge officer of Hamar Chhattsigarh Yojana Mr. Dinesh Agrawal and other officials-employees were also present.
