Students of Chandulal Chandrakar Memorial Medical College Durg and their parents today paid courtesy call on Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel at his residence office. They thanked Chief Minister for state government’s initiative to secure their future by acquiring the college. This decision of the state government is a historic decision in the interest of the students, said the parents. “Children are our future and state government will make every possible effort for their betterment”, said Chief Minister.

It is worth mentioning that 180 students of 2017 batch are studying in fourth year at Chandulal Chandrakar Memorial Medical College, Durg. As the studies of these students were getting affected, Medical Education Department of Chhattisgarh Government issued the order to re-allocate the children to other recognized medical colleges, on the initiative of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel. State Chairman of Hospital Board and State Convener of IMA Medical Student Network, Dr. Rakesh Gupta informed Chief Minister Mr. Baghel that around 300 medical students of pre-2017 batch are completing their internship, and now they will appear for PG NEET. He said that the future of 480 students has been secured with this initiative of Chhattisgarh government. Medical student Mr. Akshat thanked Chief Minister for the decision to re-allocate MBBS students of the college. He requested that students should be given an opportunity to do internship in Government District Hospitals and Community Health Centers of their home district, so that they may gain maximum knowledge and experience from their internship. Dr. Rakesh Gupta said that MCI gives permission for private medical college in any state only when the state government concerned assures in writing to protect the interests of the students in this college.  In many states, such steps have been taken by the state government to secure future of the students, in case the recognition of private medical colleges is revoked. He also referred to the decision of Supreme Court in the case of Uttarakhand, which said that the state government is morally responsible for securing the future of medical students.
It is also noteworthy that Government of Chhattisgarh has decided to acquire Chandulal Chandrakar Memorial Medical College, Durg in larger interest of students and for the rapid expansion of medical education in the state. Usually, it takes about Rs 500 crore and a lot of time to develop an infrastructure such as medical college. But with the acquisition of Chandulal Chandrakar Memorial Medical College, Durg, recognized by the Medical Council of India, people and students of the state will be able to get the benefit of another government medical college at less than half the cost.
